Mitzi Akaha is a bilingual (English and Japanese) actress based in New York with roots in the Midwestern US, northern California and Japan. Her career began as a model in Tokyo, where she appeared in fashion shows, magazines and advertisements, winning cover stories and billboards across the country. She found particular success in commercials, acting in spots alongside Pharrell Williams, Kei Nishikori, Barbara Palvin, Hiroki Narimiya, Daisuke Takahashi and Hiroyuki Hirayama. She was cast as a regular on an educational sketch show called Terebi de Kiso Eigo [Basic English for Television] that aired Sunday afternoons on NHK, in which she improvised in English and Japanese alongside well-known Japanese comedians Koyabu Kazutoyo, Maeda Maeda and Kumicky.
Akaha relocated to New York in 2014 and has since starred in a wide range of commercials, music videos and short and feature-length films. She is also a published writer and illustrator and has multiple scripts in development.
